2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E vs. Tesla Model Y
Wondering which electric vehicle to spend your hard-earned money on when you upgrade your car? Well, Ford’s 2021 Mustang Mach-E and Tesla’s Model Y are both releasing this year and making their way to Raleigh car dealerships. At Capital Ford Raleigh, we’re super excited to help you make an informed decision about which car is better in the battle of the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E vs. Tesla Model Y.
How do the cars fare against one another?
Engine Power
The Mustang Mach-E is an eAWD EV that’s powered by a whopping 480 horsepower and 634 lb.-ft. of torque. The Ford’s 75.7-kWh battery can support a continuous drive up to 483 km, on three driving modes – Whisper, Engage, and Unbridled. The Mustang Mach-E can take you from 0 to 60 in under 3.8 seconds – that’s pretty fast for an EV.
In comparison, the Tesla Model Y takes up to 5.3 seconds to reach 0-60mph on its 50-kWh battery-operated, 384 hp engine.
Exteriors & Interiors
Ford’s 2021 Mustang Mach-E is a premium SUV to look at and drive. The EV is larger than the smaller and more minimalistic Tesla Model Y. In fact, the Mustang Mach-E’s wider frame gives it an additional 4.7 cu. ft. of storage space in the trunk. It’s perfect for families who love to travel long distances. Plus, the Mustang Mach-E certainly looks perkier compared to the rounded exteriors of the Tesla Model Y, making Ford’s new EV more attractive.
When it comes to interiors in the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E vs. Tesla Model Y battle, the Mustang Mach-E certainly deserves attention for re-working how the interiors look. Right from its cutting-edge touchscreen infotainment system (that’s a half-inch bigger than Model Y’s) to its feature-rich control panel, everything has been designed for comfort, control, and accessibility. In comparison, the Tesla Model Y remains plain with no discernible controls except for the small steering wheel and its touchscreen system.
Finally, there’s the cargo space. With a cargo space of 29.7 cu. ft with the second row up, the Mustang Mach is a worthy vehicle. Tesla doesn’t boast of such cargo.
Safety
Let’s just say that if the IIHS gave the Mustang Mach-E the designation as the Top Safety Pick, it’s done safety right. Ford is planning to release its brand-new semi-autonomous highway driving system called BlueCruise, which will make driving safer. Safety is the only area where the Tesla Model Y performs neck and neck with Ford’s new Mustang, getting 5-stars from both IIHS and NHTSA.
Verdict
Considering how the Mustang Mach-E significantly outperforms the Tesla Model Y in numerous areas, it’s safe to say that Ford’s Mustang is our winner in the comparison.
